Past Events
Valentine’s Sock Hop
(Co-Sponsored with the Southern Ulster Chamber of Commerce)
Our 2003 Sock Hop was a great success. Sal’s Place provided the food,
while the band Hot Rod kept us dancing. With the savory food, harmonious
music, and prizes galore, a great time was had by all.
Easter Egg Hunt
(Co-Sponsored with the Highland Downtown Business Association)
With over 150 children and the Easter Bunny attending, our event captivated
the imagination of kids and adults alike. Each child could enter the find the
“H” egg contest, as well as, search for hidden eggs in age appropriate
designated areas.
Highland Farmers’ Market
This year’s Farmers’ Market was expanded both
in the number of vendors and the duration. Instead of offering markets on
four days, we have extended it to 20 weeks. We had a variety of vendors,
including farmers, flower growers, bakers, a candle maker, a jewelry maker,
and more. Each week we offered special events for the customers. Among these
events are: International Flair, Chef of the Month, Kids’ Day, Bakers’
Day, & Pot Luck.
July 4th Celebration
Our July 4th Celebration and Street Fair was an enormous
success. With estimates of over 5000 spectators, there were activities for
all that attended. The Town gave out helium balloons to all the children
and American Flags to the adults. Silk ‘n Sound wowed the crowd with
their extensive repertoire. The evening was capped off by a spectacular
fireworks display.
September 11th Memorial
Our September 11th Memorial was as emotional, as it was
uplifting. In 2003, the I Love Lloyd Foundation raise the funds to purchase
a September 11th Memorial Clock which was presented to the Town at the Memorial.
Along with this presentation, the evening included children aged 4-8 years
old leading the spectators in patriotic songs, and speeches from Town Supervisor
Robert Shepard, I Love Lloyd President Sandy Avampato, Police Chief David
M. Ackert, and Fire Chief Peter Miller. The ceremony concluded with an emotional
trumpet rendition of Taps by Joseph Avampato, Jr.
Halloween Parade & Judging
(Co-Sponsored with the Highland Parent Teacher Association)
The Events Committee has brought back the Halloween Parade and judging contest.
For 2003, the parade will include a themed float with adults in costumes.
The children will each receive a light up Halloween necklace. Following
the parade, the children will proceed up to the Middle School for the judging
and refreshments.

Hamlet festivities. There will be caroling, a school band performing, a
children’s parade, the lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Town
