ASSESSOR’S OFFICE NEWS

Elaine Rivera, Town of Lloyd Assessor would like to make all property owners aware that the time period for exemptions is approaching and that anyone who believes they may be eligible for an exemption should contact the Assessor’s Office. The filing deadline for all exemptions is March 1, 2010. If you have any questions regarding exemptions or require assistance completing applications please contact the Assessor at (845) 691-2197.

STAR EXEMPTION
The Assessors Office would like to remind all property owners who have recently purchased homes in the Town, or who have moved into newly constructed homes, that they are eligible for the Basic Star exemption on their new home, if it is their primary Residence. All applications for new homeowners must be received by the Assessor by March 1 of 2010. You can request applications from the Assessor’s Office at 845-691-2197 or download applications on the web at www.orps.state.ny.us. Send applications to Town of Lloyd Assessor, 12 Church Street, Highland NY 12528.

ENHANCED STAR/SENIOR CITIZEN EXEMPTION
Any property owner who will be 65 on or before December 31, 2010 may be eligible for the Enhanced STAR and Senior Citizens Exemption. If you believe you may be eligible contact the Assessor’s Office at 845 691-2197. All applications must be received by the Assessor’s Office by March 1, 2010.

EXEMPTION RENEWALS
Any property owner who is currently receiving an exemption, must file a renewal application by March 1, 2010. Renewal Applications for all exemptions will be mailed out by the Assessor’s Office by December of this year. You do not need to file a renewal for either the Basic Star or Veteran’s Exemptions.

VETERAN’S EXEMPTION
Legislation passed by the NY Legislature changed the start date for the Vietnam War to February 28, 1961 from December 1961. If you were previously denied the exemption because of the previous law, you should contact the Assessor’s Office at 845 691-2197 to see if you may qualify under the new legislation.

COLD WAR VETERAN'S EXEMPTION
If you are a Veteran who served during the Cold War Period, you may be eligible for an exemption. Contact the Assessor's Office at 845 691-2197.

The Assessor's Office is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.., visit the office to obtain information regarding property ownership, inventory and values, maps, and sales information.
