SUPERVISOR’S FIRST QUARTER 2023 UPDATE

SUPERVISOR’S FIRST QUARTER 2023 UPDATE
We welcomed the 2023 New Year in by closing outstanding Labor contracts with Dispatchers and Police PBA. Work continued throughout the Town preparing for upcoming projects. Our Highway Dept continued to keep our roads passable when we had snow and were able to focus other Highway activities due to the mild winter.

We hosted a Seniors Saint Patrick’s Day luncheon March 16th that was attended by over 120 seniors. The Events Committee held their first ever 5K Clover Classic Marathon on March 18th on the Rail Trail. This 5K run attracted many residents and was very well received. Hopefully, the Events Committee can turn this success into a yearly event.

At the end of March construction restarted on the Tillson/Toc intersection project. The work will continue through the summer and is planned to complete in the September timeframe. During this timeframe many of us will be inconvenienced by detours and new traffic patterns. The Highway Dept built a temporary gated “Emergency Access” road from Commercial Ave Ext to Toc Drive. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it is the price we need to endure for progress and hopefully we all appreciate the outcome of the realigned intersection and new sidewalks on Tillson Ave. We will continue to put out weekly updates on the Town Website and our Social Media pages.

Key activity started or completed in the 1st quarter of 2023.
• The Town Board signed a 3-year contract with the Town Police Dispatchers through 2025.
• The Town continues work on the Comprehensive Plan and held public workshops in January. We also sent out electronic surveys, over 460 people responded to the survey giving us data to build the Plan going forward.
• The Town Board signed a new contract with the Town of Lloyd PBA carrying through 2024, the Town Police have been without a contract since the end of 2019.
• The Town participated in the Ulster County Hazard Mitigation Plan Phase One. We will continue our participation in this plan which is targeted to complete in October of this year.
• Our Building Dept and Planning/Zoning boards have started accepting and reviewing applications for Short Term Rentals per the Local Law passed in October 2022.
• Approved new Zoning (Planned Residential Retirement Development) on Route 9W South for Senior facility.
• Installed “Children at Play” and 25 MPH speed limit signs in the Sunnybrook Community to help with safety.
• Dedicated 3 roads in the Mountainside Woods Sub-Division (Emerson Ct, Vista Circle and Asher Way), they are now officially town roads.
• Hired an Engineering firm to assess adding additional parking space at Tony Williams field to avoid overcrowding in the parking lot, especially when multiple events are taking place. It was determined we could add 61-65 spaces if needed. Will assess costs and determine feasibility.
• Submitted 5 grant applications across various areas, awaiting results.
• We attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Highland Passive House on Upper North Road which is the first of its kind in North America. This will be the first Certified Passive Warehouse and will achieve carbon neutral and net zero energy status. We look forward to seeing the project get completed.
