SUPERVISOR’S SECOND QUARTER 2023 UPDATE

SUPERVISOR’S SECOND QUARTER 2023 UPDATE

We kicked off the 2nd quarter of 2023 with our annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Village on April 2nd. The children who attended the Easter Egg Hunt were very excited and our Events Committee and their volunteers did a great job organizing them. On May 25th we hosted a Seniors BBQ on what felt like to be the windiest day at Highland Landing Bob Shepard Park. It was well attended drawing over 220 of our Town of Lloyd seniors.  On June 3rd, we held our yearly SpringFest in the Hamlet that drew a nice crowd and was well received by all.

We continue the construction on the Tillson/Toc intersection project. The work will continue through the summer and is planned to complete and the roads back opened prior to the start of winter. We clearly understand the inconvenience this creates for many of you.  We apologize for the inconvenience but it is the price we need to endure for progress.  Hopefully we can all appreciate the outcome of the realigned intersection and new sidewalks on Tillson Ave. We will continue to put out weekly updates on the Town Website and our Social Media pages.

Key activity started or completed in the 2nd quarter of 2023.

  • We installed a temporary traffic signal at the corner of Chapel Hill Road and Rt 44/55 to improve safety during the Tillson/Toc construction Phase. After a few weeks of adjustments, the light is working properly and has improved safety at the intersection. The Town Board has petitioned DOT to keep the signal after construction and become permanent.
  • The Town Board passed a new Local Law to better regulate parking lots in the Town and prevent overnight parking and un-registered vehicles taking up our spaces.
  • The Town Hall has been upgraded with a new Security System to replace the outdated system and signed a contract with Doyle Security to maintain it for 5 years.
  • We received a $19,000 Grant for the Environmental Conservation Committee to create an invasive species management plan for Chodikee Lake and the Black Creek Watershed areas.
  • Our Police force received a $ 1,072 grant from the Sherriff’s Association to purchase 10 tourniquet kits for our officers.
  • Berean Park opened for the season on Memorial Day weekend. Summer Fun camp and swimming commenced in late June and will run through mid-August.
  • Presented Highland High School’s Valedictorian Alisha Mokal and Salutatorian Erica Angelillo with Outstanding Achievement Awards at the June 7th Board meeting.
  • The Town of Lloyd Police Department recently acquired “Opioid Emergency Kits” from Ulster County Mental Health. Several Opioid Emergency Kits have been placed in common areas around town in Lloyd government buildings (ex., Police Department, Town Hall, Court, etc.).
  • Abraham Elting Cemetary New Paltz Landing Slave Cemetary’s sign was erected and the path was cleared by our Historian, Chief of Police and Highway Department
  • The Town Board approved Taso Bakatsias’ Eagle Scout Project to place additional signage at the Kayak Launch off of Route 299.
