SUPERVISOR’S THIRD QUARTER 2023 UPDATE

The 3rd quarter of 2023 started off with a grand 4th of July celebration highlighted by an impressive display of fireworks on July 2nd at the Town Field.  Even though the weather was a little questionable, we had a terrific turnout for this event.  And the fireworks were excellent!  Thanks to the Events committee and their band of volunteers who worked so hard and tirelessly to make it possible.

Our Parks and Recreational facilities and pavilions have been busy all summer and are in great condition.

The road construction to re-align Tillson Avenue and Toc Drive intersection continued through the summer. The current progress outlook is to re-open Vineyard Avenue by 12/01/23 and Tillson by 12/15/23.  There will be some landscaping and touch up work that will need to be completed in the Spring of 2024, but it will not cause road closures.

We held a number of events for our senior residents this quarter as well.  First was a Movie and a Meal on July 27th at the Vineyard Commons Theater where they enjoyed a delicious spaghetti and meatballs dinner catered by Coppola’s La Fantasia followed by a screening of Moonstruck.  This was followed by the Supervisor’s Senior Breakfast at Bob Shepard Highland Landing Park on August 24th and our seniors did not disappoint as we had another record-breaking breakfast turnout.  In September we hosted 3 separate Lunch & Learn sessions on VA Benefits, Medicaid and Medicare at the Highland Public Library.  We will continue to focus on our Senior Citizens and provide social gatherings.  We’d like to thank all our vendors, sponsors and volunteers who pull these events off with ease and a thank you to Village Commons and the Highland Public Library for allowing us to host these events at their facilities.

The Events Committee organized a Fall Night out at the Town Field with food, music, lawn games and pre-holiday shopping.  It was a huge success even though the weather was rainy and windy.

Other key activity started or completed in the 3RD quarter of 2023:

  • Started construction of new water tank on Reservoir Road to replace old tank that was end of life and required major repairs.
  • The Supervisor’s office applied for WIIA (Water Infrastructure Improvement Act) grants to refurbish Town Water Plant.
  • The Highway Department paved additional roads throughout the town: Reservoir Road, Upper North Road, Red Top Road, Bellevue Road, So. Chapel Hill Road, Picnic Woods Road, Macks Lane and Elmer Lane.
  • Finished installing new entry doors and facade at the Town Hall
  • Started the excavation for the Lewis C. Distasi Pavilion at the Town Field
  • The Town Beautification Committee planted more flowers throughout the town and are prepping for decorations for Fall and Winter.
